Removing a tooth from the oral cavity would be required during certain oral conditions. Whatever the reason may be, tooth extraction proves very helpful to keep one’s oral health balanced.
When is an extraction required?
- External trauma: The teeth may undergo severe damage in the form of chipping or cracks. Sports injuries are one of the leading causes of tooth damage. During such situations, we would diagnose the condition thoroughly and decide whether or not the tooth can be saved. If no restorative method can help to save the tooth, it will have to be extracted.
- Impacted teeth: These teeth don’t fully erupt and in some cases can be painful and lead to the infection of the impacted tooth and the surrounding gums. We would carefully remove the tooth, either as a whole or in sections, and provide the right treatment to alleviate the pain.
- Infection or Tooth decay: Cavities are the most commonly encountered oral condition among individuals of all age groups. The accumulated plaque and tartar lead to the erosion of the enamel, exposing the inner layers of the tooth. It can lead to a root canal infection if left untreated, which would jeopardize one’s oral health. We will try to restore the tooth using fillings, crowns, or even a root canal procedure. But, if it is unrestorable, it is best to have it extracted.
- Orthodontics: Orthodontics deals with changing the alignment of the teeth to give you a better smile. If the teeth have to be moved from their positions, they will need some space adjacent to their position. Hence, in most cases, a tooth may have to be extracted to allow the teeth to move from their positions.
